This Scottish two-centre programme had six nights & seven days to experience the wealth of possibilitlies that Scotland has to offer and every night required a full evening of events and experiences for this incentive of nearly 300 North American guests staying at The Balmoral Edinburgh and The Old Course Hotel, St Andrews.
Stirling Castle with its buildings dating from the 15 th & 16 th centuries and commanding views out across the plain below was the venue for a full-blown "Gathering of the Clans" with Clan Piper and Drummer dressed in traditional Medieval Costume, warriors brandishing two-handed broadswords and battle-axes as guests arrive at their Clan encampment, set up with displays of weapons, tents, flags, flaming braziers, for drinks and canapés before their banquet in the Great Hall.
Tartan themes went completely overboard on a "Mad About Plaid" evening in the Balmoral 's Sir Walter Scott suite which was bedecked with tartan and royal regalia - "look-alikes" of Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Charles dropped in for a quick drink, followed by surprise performance by the Cavern Beatles. There were some distinctly "different" features to this programme including a privileged reception at Edinburgh Castle enlivened with human gargoyles lurking around the walls of the castle... a most unusual surprise birthday party - held in a barn which rocked from start to finish - with plenty of "boys' toys": a huge Scalextric track, FI simulator, Sega arcade racing and mobile casino tables amongst others. The Jones Gang (ex The Who, Foreigner and Bad Company members) belted out a rock and roll extravaganza and the evening ended with fireworks over the loch set to rock music.
This fast moving programme with lots of new twists certainly answered the brief: "we want to party". |
